I wish I had a little of your faith left in me. I've experienced many different emotions when the subject of John Edwards comes up. I've tried to put things into perspective and not judge him but I just can't seem to get several words out of my head when his name comes up. Hypocrite. Liar. Stupid. Coward. Ordinary. I don't expect to see him again, but if I did, I would say these words to his face.
It's never the crime that brings these men down....it's always the cover up. The cover up is why I can't forgive. It showed an arrogance that I detest. I can't be a hypocrite myself and say it is OK just because I used to be a supporter of his. It's not OK. It's not OK to lie to your supporters and your campaign staff. It's not OK to open every speech with a summary of Elizabeth's current health condition and state that she is the love of your life when you are sleeping with another woman. It's not OK to solicit hard earned money from the public when you know that your campaign is doomed.
It's not OK to deny that the baby is your's, and imply that your mistress is sleeping around with others on your staff, when it is obvious that it is not the truth. I have no respect for Hunter but throwing her under the bus, along with the baby, was one of the most disgusting displays of piggish behavior I've ever seen.
This will probably be my last comment made in the John Edwards supporters group. I am realizing after typing these words here that I don't belong here. I'm not a hater but I don't miss him at all. I will never support him again or trust any organization that chooses him as its spokesman.
In a way I guess this is my good-bye to the past. If you listen hard enough you might find that we do have a messenger out there who is speaking about One America. His name is Barack Obama. His words and style might be different but the message is the same. He is our nominee and I am so proud to now call myself an Obama Democrat.

4. I disagreee completely. |

If you want a priest-in-chief or a rabbi-in-chief or a minister-in-chief then by all means, cheating on one's wife and lying about it afterwards should make you unfit to lead the nation. Perhaps we can impeach JFK after death? Given the standard that you are trying to apply then clearly he, too, was morally unfit to lead the nation and should be impeached.
Me? I want someone capable of running the country who doesn't feel the need to inflict his/her own personal moral code on the rest of us. My own moral code serves me very well.

|
You didn't cause this mess so I have no conflict with you. I just have a different viewpoint and it is based on John's reaction to this scandal, not just the scandal itself.
I'm not seeking a morally superior president. I just want one who would own up to his/her mistakes. After the past 8 years of Bush, we deserve that.

Nice try yourself. Like I said, I have no beef with Edwards supporters. Only those who try to belittle the work I did for the campaign and the support I used to have for him.
You have no idea how much time and effort I gave to this campaign. I live in Iowa and I worked my ass off. My home was used as a field office during the last stages of the campaign in Iowa. That's how little I cared. I spent many days and countless nights on the phone and walking in neighborhoods. That's how little I cared. I shared the stage with VIP's from the campaign on caucus night. That's how little I cared.
Go ahead and try to slam me. Your reaction, and longing for Edwards, isn't the same as mine. My trust in him is just one more little casualty of his reckless behavior.

That was sooo uncalled for!
It's not what being for Edwards was all about.
We all have struggled with our feelings on this, and have come to different places.
That's all OK.
Best to you! :hi:

WHY must you pick a fight after this person was gracious enough to say s/he doesn't have any ill feelings for any of us?
What is WITH THIS??

7. Wow. You seem to "Know" a lot more than anyone else. You "know" that baby is his? Why ? |
|
It is "obvious" ? To whom? I am sorry but you seem to make an awful lot of assumptions. I understand you feel betrayed but really, you have no idea if much of the stuff you are spouting is true. You are assuming John was lying the entire time and are assuming what the National Enquirer version tells you is true. For me, it was the message not the messenger and while I may have been disappointed, I see no reason for him to be eliminated from politics the way he was. He didn't murder anyone. He isn't covering up a massacre like Colin Powell did.It sounds like he had a mistaken fling. It was wrong but he admitted it, which is more than some pols do about their pasts.

But we know John is prone to lying about things, don't we?
I happen to believe it is his. That poor baby. My friends and I all said the same thing when we saw the baby's picture. "That baby looks just like John."
Someday the truth will be known. But I doubt if it will comes from John's mouth.

And I really, really miss the Edwards supporters. I'll always remember January of this year as the true season of hope. It was just so incredibly cool to see so many people come together to fight for the underdog and the message of the PEOPLE.

Bill Clinton and John Edwards??? Clinton's in the crowd, you're talking about the other... and you all agree you "found him smarmy from the get go." :nuke: You're really unbelievable! Now I love Bill, but smarmy defines him. So I guess that puts John one up on him. More Clinton than Bubba. BTW, it's an old southern tradition. Goes a long way with the ladies, international secret societies and the elite who rule the world... Smarmy, indeed!

everything, I do love Edwards supporters, and because we all had it right & still do, I salute Edwardians everywhere...never relinquish that spirit...hold it in your hearts. We, the people, need to carry the message going forward. Don't worry, Elizabeth will have a role soon...she's incredible.

and regret that we have been somewhat divided by our reactions to the affair and how it was handled. Some of the best people I have ever encountered on any site have been here in the Edwards forum - true visionaries, true believers, and people joined together by a common goal. However we feel about JE and what his failings were, his message was awe inspiring and worthy of our commitment.
I miss JE and Elizabeth and the hope and promise that was the core of their (and I do mean "their") candidacy. And I really, truly miss the Edwardians that I came to "know" and care about here.

I still have his favorite pecan pie recipe his proud mother gave out to donors on his birthday. How fickle the public is, not a thought to what he and Elizabeth brought to the campaign... how they changed and shaped it, drove it to the left, to the people.
I don't think of what happened as a scandal, I think of it as a tragedy. A classic, age-old old-fashioned tragedy. Icarus meets Narcissis. His message, his effort and Elizabeth's, were beyond compare. There is no candidate with their message or the way they cared. Period. To think that all that was lost because of a taudry picadillo. A new age hustler and her psychic, lying in wait at the Regency Hotel bar late one night... and suddenly the dream and all the promise of a lifetime and a new America goes away.
I like Obama now and think he will be a good, even great predisdent. I believe it was destined to be. But if he doesn't bring John and Elizabeth back, there won't be real change. John was and still is the True Change Candidate. He's had to stay out of the race because the Republican's are insane muckrakers but... John and Elizabeth need to come back and work with him. They need to be part of this administration. If they're not, Obama took from him, then cast him aside over a scandal not worth its weight in salt.
