The ramp up of the vocal minority Edwards haters proves even more that he will win Iowa. |
|
This is 2004 all over again. There were a bunch of desperate attacks on Kerry at DU when some realized that he was going to win Iowa. Calling him a "DLCer" and a "Bush-lite" and picking out a narrow selection of his votes to "prove" he wasn't a Democrat.
There are several haters who never mention their own choice. They never promote any candidate, just bash Edwards.
One has a Journal that is 90% Edwards bashing.
Sad. Really sad.

I was reading one thread last night - an Edwards-positive piece, no less. And there was one sour-tongued sort that was lamenting John's rise. Said he'd leave the party (or was it "country") if John was annointed. Hmmmmmmm.... I'm thinkin' we'd be better off for their departure!

5. Could we pleeeez not use the term "haters"? |
|
that is the buzzword of another candidate, and borrowed from the RW.
They really don't hate... they are scared.

8. I'll start using the word "bashers." |
|
But only because it's against DU's TOS to call anyone "stalkers."

There are only a few who are on a mission to tear Edwards down, but they are very good at it.
I saw this ruse 3 times yesterday - "I am very disturbed about...." as though they had been considering Edwards but now that they found some dirt, they are "very disturbed." I don't think that is true. The people saying that never have liked Edwards, never would support him, and I would guess are happy, not disturbed, that they found something to smear him with.
The general theme is that Edwards is "a phony" and that we "can't trust him." That is a vague charge, that is very difficult to defend against - akin to "when did you stop getting drunk all the time?" It is a clever smear. Whether or not a candidate is trustworthy is a subjective judgment call - it can't be "proved." But by insinuating the idea into people's minds continually, it prejudices people toward Edwards.
Here is the real irony: the Edwards critics are doing exactly what they are accusing Edwards of doing - cleverly manipulating language to deceive people.
I think that it is the message Edwards is delivering that people are opposed to. They can't come out and say that, though. How could they say "well I am basically opposed to traditional Democratic party positions, and would have voted for Wilkie over FDR back in the day?" They are opposed to the party becoming a blue collar party again, opposed to the party getting out of bed with corporate interests, opposed to helping the poor and disadvantaged, opposed to rebuilding the strength of labor unions. They can't say that, because they would lose their mesmerizing hold over everyone if they did.
There are a relatively small number of people throughout the party and the liberal organizations who control everything on the left, and who do not want to let the riff raff into the party.

7. I came to this forum to vent about this but I see I'm not the first |
|
What kills me is that a couple of them - you know who I mean - deny that they constantly start these negative Edwards threads. I don't want to ignore them- because I think we have to go in and defend him - not that they ever pay attention.
And the fact that they don't seem to support any of the candidates is fishy to me.

9. There are a couple of people whose hatred of John Edwards borders on irrational. |
|
There's no arguing with them. I wonder what they're going to do if he gets the nomination.

I've mentioned it in several threads today.
Sad that Edwards is so terrible that someone has to dedicate their existence to defeating him.

I have stayed away from the OP of that post for quite some time.....Mostly it's the Clarkies, and those that are playing it safe, like picking Richardson or Biden as their candidate. It's going to be interesting, I betcha John walks away from Iowa with a double digit lead.
