John will take Iowa. How do I know? A bright 11th grader told me |

I went up to a fellow Democrat's classroom, and we talked about tomorrow's caucus in Iowa. Even my friend is starting to lean to Edwards, which shows the momentum he's gaining. I told Michelle that John had come out about removing our troops from Iraq in 10 months, which even appealed to her more (her brother served two tours in Iraq). Anyhow, I digress.
This was an AP US History class, and this young lady was laughing at my descriptions of the Republican candidates (I was being a smart ass. I may be reported if there's a wingnut kid in there, but I don't care. Wouldn't be a first). Anyway, this wonderful girl told me she was certain John would win because he had "been on the ground" so much in Iowa. She said she was also witnessing a surge in the Edwards campaign, so much so that she has a bet with her Dad, who thinks Clinton will win the caucus.
I asked her how old she was, and she said she wouldn't be 18 until February 09. Three other students raised their hands and said they would be 18 before the elections, and said they would be voting. I was really impressed with this group of kids, but especially the young lady who put it all in perspective for me. A 16 year old girl gave me all the confidence in the world that our candidate was going to pull off the upset!
