Question about Edwards and his money.
I'm seeing lots of people attack John on his income from the hedge fund he worked for. Did he not donate all of that money to charity?

I also remember reading that he gave $100,000 to New Orleans residents because some of his investments (unknown to Edwards at the time) profited from their housing crisis.

I've had several people say, "But Edwards is a millionaire...what did he do with his money...how did he get it...blah blah blah." So, I just thought I'd make sure I knew all the facts since this seems to be a topic of concern, and I'd like to know for myself as well.

Where can I go to find specifics on this?

Thanks in advance - and GO, JOHN, GO!

1. smear campaigns
The idea is that a wealthy person cannot be sincere about helping the poor. Just mention FDR and the Kennedys and the smear artists will wander off.

None of the attacks on Edwards have any substance. They are carefully worded to give a negative impression without actually saying anything.

"He is a lawyer just trying to make clever arguments to win." And, what, the other candidates are not trying to make points and win?

"He is phony." Can't prove or disprove that. It is an insult to his supporters, though, and we should respond with resentment.

"He voted wrong." So has most of the country, politicians or not, for decades now, on hundreds of issues.

"He is pandering to the poor to get votes." This is the most hilarious. We have had a steady diet for years and years of politicians ignoring or attacking the poor to get votes (and money, which is what really decides elections.) No one "panders to the poor." Clearly, we have other candidates who most definitely ARE pandering to the super wealthy, and who are finding it quite lucrative to do so. That is supposed to be OK though, I guess, because they are "winners."

5. I *wish* he would "pander to the poor". He seems to have dropped it in favor of the
ever-popular muddleclass.

I'm very disappointed.

:(

2. I wouldn't pay any attention to the detractors.
They're only looking for you to squirm. In doing so you provide a salve for their own candidate's sores. :grr:

3. Thanks - I haven't been able to find anything during my research that shines
a bad light on John in any way.

He was a successful lawyer, but apparently operated in a very ethical and above board manner.

Thanks for the responses. :)
