I just got a response from NBC News re: "fair" coverage of Edwards. |
|
Edited on Thu Jan-10-08 06:17 PM by huskerlaw
Per Chuck Todd at NBC: no family of networks has given more attention and coverage than the family of NBC. He's (Edwards') getting more than his fair share given his standing in the race right now after the first two contests.
Anyone care to dispute that? I already sent him a scathing reply, but if any of you want to pile on, I'm sure he'd *love* to hear from you.
Here's his email: Chuck.Todd@nbcuni.com
On edit: Chuck Todd is the political director for NBC.

"given his standing in the race"
He came in SECOND, BEFORE sHillary, and all the news was about Obama and sHillary!! Edwards "standing" was ignored!!
Do they really think we're that dumb?????
edited because I rudely left out thanking you for making the effort, and letting us know the response you got! :yourock:
I'm going to get an email off to this clown, and thank you for passing this along! This is how we can be our own media, and you made a great start!

2. I sent a quick one....like it will really matter. |
|
"Seeing that no-one covers his very legitimate and viable campaign, your premise that his coverage is in proportion to his standing may be acceptable. If you gave his campaign the coverage it merits, then you fall far short of the mark. Edwards speaks for us, the "everyman" of the voting population. Pay attention, we have a large voice and will be heard."

4. MSNBC has given him some coverage |
|
While often dismissed or ignored, MSNBC has at least given Edwards some coverage. (partly because they seem the most focused on politics hese days. they also had Huckabee when everyone else was ignoring him. )
Morning Joe, Countdown, and Abrams have been reasonable. Matthews and Russert are openly hostile and dismissive, Schuster and Mikka B. sometimes stand up for him when attacked by the others. Russert is probably the worst for ignoring Edwards when doing analyses -- he could probably do that even if Edwards were sitting at the same table after a breakthrough victory somewhere.

there are zero Edwards headlines on MSNBC.com right now. None. Obama and Hillary, of course, have many.
There are other networks that perhaps deserve our anger more, but in my opinion, Chuck's response was snide and condescending. If he's going to take the time to respond to me personally in that tone, I'm darn sure going to make sure he understands that his response was unacceptable.

It looks like we all got the same initial reply, but then the conversations start to diverge.
Chuck and I have exchanged 7 emails at this point...

8. Yeah, that's the way I saw it too. |

Sort of a pat answer at first (which in itself I found amazing) and then what was obviously a more personal reply.
SEVEN E-MAILS! How has the dialogue progressed???

The first few emails were pretty snide (on both sides), but then I changed tactic and engaged him in conversation. I don't agree with his views, but its been interesting. The ball is in my court now and I'm trying to maximize the conversation potential.
We left off with him saying that he thinks the Edwards campaign failed to highlight John's experience, and therefore failed to distinguish himself from Obama.
