It's at the top of the DU journals column at the moment. It's a good read about this country bein' a corporation. I read it and all the replies of folks in concurrance and I couldn't believe that Edwards wasn't mentioned in any of them! So I did. My reply is #47 - I was writing tongue-in-cheek to be sure and got one reply from an Edwards sort who took my questions as tho they were just that <sigh> Let's hear from a few more from our group. Be like John - upbeat and on topic. Can't hurt! http://journals.democraticunderground.com/Orwellian_Ghost/26

Modern people, steeped in Hollywood drama and sci fi and alternative spiritual paths, tend to see these issues in non-political ways - "the Matrix" or a conspiracy by "the PTB" or some mysterious and amorphous ascendancy of evil forces.
But the story of the few lording over the many and taking advantage of them, and the struggle of the people to overcome oppression, is an ancient and ongoing one. Corporate dominance is merely the latest variation of that.
This story, and the struggle of the have-nots against the haves, is what politics are all about - the very reason for politics to exist and to have been invented in the first place. The wealthy and powerful few don't need politics or government. They will use them if they have to, but they don't need them. Without politics and government they would just rule over us directly, eliminating the middle man as it were - as the few have tried to do to the many throughout all human history.
Much of the anti-Edwards effort is a denial of reality, not opposition to Edwards nor to his candidacy. Seeing that two Americas do in fact exist, siding with the poor and downtrodden, recognizing that we are up against the same old story of the few oppressing the many - that is what politics are for, that is the whole purpose, not some petty little preference, and not whining, or fringe or whatever other malicious and false insults are hurled at us every day here.
It is politics, it is what is right, it is the proper cause, it is the good fight, it is the noble struggle to fight for the left behind and the forgotten and to take on the powerful few.
