Edwards is in for the long haul and he is going to win |
|
I realized something last night, the Presidency is not the prize that Edwards is after. The prize is beating the bad guys. He has always been the underdog, all his life. He has always worked hard to attain what he wanted. When he won his first case that everyone thought was a lost cause, that became his high. I never thought he was a political junkie. I always thought that he was in this to help the little guy. And, I think that's where he gets his kick, taking on issues that everyone thinks can't be changed. I think that's why he was so unhappy in the Senate, he couldn't do what he wanted to do.
I've watched a lot of video on this guy. Many times he has been asked about the grueling pace of the campaign, and his reply........this is fun. That's why you see him look so rested all the time and the others look like they haven't slept in days. This is his high. And every time one of the other candidates steals from his campaign, he knows he's won. He loves getting in there and doing the work. And, this is not make or break for him. Like he says, he and his family will be fine. He's being OUR lawyer, fighting against the big corps who have taken away our brighter futures.
He is going to win, on this I have no doubt. Against all odds, his agenda, his fight will end up as the dem platform. I hope that he will be the person who runs in the GE, and if he isn't it won't be for the lack of trying.

I agree with you. It was nagging at me - there is something different about Edwards. I woke up thinking "confidence!" - he has confidence in a way that the others do not - and wrote a post about it while the insight was fresh on my mind.
You are right, Edwards isn't all bent out of shape about winning the presidency as the other two are and it really shows. He sees the campaign and the election as a means to an end, he is on a bigger mission, he isn't trying to be a great politician. His campaigning and his speeches all flow from his sense of mission.
I think these charges of "phony" come from people who are so cynical and jaded that they can't believe, or don't understand how anyone could be on such a mission, so they assume that it must be phony. It wouldn't matter who it was, they would have the same reaction, so their criticism is not really about Edwards. There are also people who are opposed to the mission he is on, and who aren't forthright about that.
Then we have these challenges — ”sure he talks the talk but how is he going to actually do these things?” People who say that are not so much saying that Edwards could not do what he is talking about, they don't think anyone could. Again that is more a reflection on the speaker than it is on Edwards.

He's someone I would absolutely want in my corner, in a fight that most people think can't be won.
