OK, Edwards supporters. We can't let the GOP keep the White House. Who do we support? |
|
We have two choices: Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama.
How do we decide who is best?
Which one has the best chance to win against John McCain?
Which one is the most trustworthy?
Which one has plans closest to John Edwards plans?
Who is the least offensive?
Maybe we can have a civil, respectful discussion about the facts and compare positives and negatives and decide where to go. In the absence of an Edwards endorsement, we're going to have to fly solo on this one, but perhaps as a group we can at least compile enough info in one place that Edwards supporters can see what they need to see at a glance.
I'll start.
I think Hillary is in a pretty good position to withstand whatever attacks the GOP throws at her. She and Bill have been investigated, investigated, investigated by the GOP, and nothing has really stuck.
Plus, Bill will be an excellent Ambassador for the country. He was loved all over the world, and after the Bush era, he can restore respect and dignity quickly, since he's a known, a familiar face, and someone remembered fondly.
What else? Anybody have good points about Barack?

I'm in no mood for it today. Maybe in a few days I'll be ready to think about it but not today.

Then I'll look at both Clinton's and Obama's sites again, re-read their stand on things, and try to decide that.

We fought for a cause, not for a personality.
We will all pull the lesser of two evils lever. We always do. But that isn't a true reflection of what is happening. The two evils themselves get worse and worse and worse, and part of the game is always that one of them is slightly better than the other. When people are ready to talk seriously about that, then we will have something.
I am not shopping for a consumer item, trying to make my best personal choice, and I am not going to paw through the second-rate merchandise trying to convince myself that there is something of value there.

I understand everyone is feeling bad, so do I.
But if anyone comes across something that might be of interest, I'd appreciate them posting it here. I don't want the GOP to continue their reign over America.

If Edwards was affiliated with Rezco...it would have been non-stop media circus 24/7 until he was forced to drop out. Obama has been given a pass...thus far. However, ANYONE who doesn't believe that Rezco will be a household name by the time the republicans finish with Obama haven't been paying attention. Same with Hillary. We are now left with two "glass ceiling" breaking candidates and IMHO, neither of them can win because of their baggage that has NOTHING to do with race or gender.

For being able to take a positive approach at this time.
As for me, I regret that I do not think I'll be able to vote.
Hillary is too tied in with the corporatacracy. Barack may be, too. Voting for Hillary is like voting for Bush. Barack doesn't stand a chance because he has too much baggage. I think Rezko is just a dollop of the gigantic flood of mud the GOP will be able to bring down on him.
The only positive thing I can think of is that neither Hillary nor Barack seem as war hungry as McCain. But that probably doesn't matter because they will change once the powers that be tell them to.
When I was canvassing for Kerry in '04, I got so frustrated by the people who said they wouldn't vote because there was no difference between the Republicans and the Democrats. I kept trying to convince them that at least a Democrat, no matter which Democrat, would try to restore our constitution. Well, I no longer feel that way. I don't see either of these candidates doing anything about it. We no longer have a voice. Our civil liberties are gone, not to be retrieved. Our voting system is corrupted and will remain so.
It is time to move on. Literally. We need to make plans now to leave this country while we are still able to do so. Fascism is upon us.
I hope I feel better in a few days, but I do not expect to.

16. Andy, I am voting for JRE in my upcoming primary |
|
and letting the 'people' decide about November.
They are two sides of the same coin. As a typical DU'er i know more about them and their platforms than 95% of the electorate and neither has that spark.
No more money, no more volunteer time. I am now an official observer to the M$M-designated "which corporate candidate" process that is the US election.

I also don't understand the timing. Edwards did not state clearly why he is dropping out, and I don't understand why he didn't wait at least until after super Tuesday. Damn, damn, damn, damn. I feel bad tonight.
