WINTER SOLDIER: Why testify? Because America Needs It

“I am going to Winter Soldier: Iraq & Afghanistan because the American public must know what is done in our names. They must know all of it, not just the acts of “a few bad apples.” They must know of traffic control point shootings that kill civilians every day without so much as a mention on the nightly news. Those same Americans who get teary-eyed at even a note of “I’m proud to be an American” need to hear the stories of how degrading Iraqi life is under the occupation. Those flag-waving sunshine patriots need to hear how often even the brass calls the Iraqi population ”Hajjis” while rhetorically bringing “then” freedom. I am going to Winter Soldier because American needs it, and the oath I took 10 years ago still holds true, though this time it is the domestic enemies of the constitution who must be defeated. I could go home and move on with my life forgetting that my country is occupying another, but like those cold and weary sould in the winter of 1777, we must not shrink in the face of this crisis.”
