50 Cent on a Mission to Save Life – ready to donate his Bone Marrow
50 Cent is much more humane than many would give him the credit. The rapper has registered as a bone marrow donor after he came to know about 11year old actress Shannon Tavarez is suffering from leukaemia. 50 Cent registered with the world’s largest marrow donor centre, DKMS.

The news reminded him of his son who is just a couple of years older than Shannon. The rapper feels that he cannot think of his son to suffer the same fate and life being “cut short” when someone can help him. 50 Cent also went on to add that every person deserves a fair chance at life irrespective of race and ethnicity.

However, finding a donor for Shannon who played the role of young Nala in ‘The Lion King’ on Broadway will be very difficult. The young actress is of African American and Dominican origin and in the national registry the minorities are underrepresented. So he has urged even his fans to register and commit to save a life. Fellow G-UNIT member Tony Yayo has also registered with DKMS.

Singer Rihanna and Alicia Keys have also urged fans to find a donor for Tavarez. The young actress has been staying in a Long Island hospital facility from the time she has been diagnosed with an acute form of leukaemia. It all started when she experienced acute and mysterious leg pains.

1. So sad about little Shannon...I hope a match is found for her.
Good on Curtis and the others registering as donors.

2. Wow. I have hated 50 cent since the "Get Rich or Die Trying" debacle
but this is a wonderful thing that he's doing.

3. Good on him!
and good coverage. The lame-stream media has no trouble spotlighting black people, and rappers in particular, when they've done wrong and other negative events. Remember, if it bleeds, it leads. It's so rare that they go out of their way for positive human interest stories, esp. those involving black people.
