I may be slow...but I have seen how repubs are dividing blacks

It seems blacks who are irresponsible and having kids out of wedlock and abandoning their kids are all democrats...but the blacks who are good family men and who care for their families are republicans...I saw this in a chat line tonight!! We need to counter this argument NOW..and with everything we have!!!

1. Brilliant marketers,

the GOP. It's 2004 and nothing's changed except that for a brief while it wasn't okay to say these things out loud.

With a conservative majority, however, it's not only acceptable, but encouraged. Liberals, in fact, are the new maligned minority so when a black votes against their best interest and spouts conservative dogma they're redeemable. Otherwise, they're as contemptible as ever.

Now that it's preached from some pulpits, bellowed about on talk radio and slyly referred to in right-leaning newscasts the only ones who'll listen when you protest are...well, us. I have no idea how to go about fighting it when they've been taught to distrust anyone who isn't speaking from their outlets and rebuttals for every argument are spoon fed. Even seeing with their own eyes isn't enough. If you tell them a story of a poor single mother with malnourished children, they set upon her like jackals. She shouldn't have been immoral enough to have gotten pregnant outside of marriage, could've worked harder and most importantly, shouldn't expect any compassion.

The new progressive Christian commercial is a good one but they already have already segregated themselves from Christians who don't interpret the scripture as they do.

Someone here said we should call in and complain when they misrepresent African Americans in the media and band together for massive write-ins and the like. That's a great idea. And, I think the more we see hard working families featured - black and white - who absolutely cannot make it in this economy, it may set in with some that it's neither compassionate nor Christian to favor a free-market over well-fed children.

2. I disagree strongly......

with that Chat "line". I know all kinds of Black folks, from all walks of life, and the majority do not like Bush...whether rich or poor. What percentage of the Black vote did Bush get this election....11%? The Black middle and upper income class is made up of more than a mere 11%.....of the overall population.

Black folks will counter this argument fine....by continuing to vote Democratic. Out of all groups of Americans, Black Folks, as a group, have the best BS detector that can be found. It's not easy duping the Black community.

It is true that Black people are not always the most bleeding of hearts Liberal in the real sense...as many are moderate to conservative in many of the social issues....but they ain't stupid. They will most likely always be the most reliable Democratic voting bloc there is.

Now a bigger issue is getting African-Americans to the voting booth. That's a much greater challenge vs. the possibility that they might vote Republican.

Also remember that 95% of Black people up until FDR voted Republican...because it was the party of Lincoln...who allegedly freed the Slaves. Most of the same "Republicans" voted for FDR...and changed their party registration like a giant tidal wave...and have not looked back since.

I will say that if Republicans ever give the African Americans a good reason to vote Republican (which they wont)....than the Democrats can hang up winning forever.
