I'm sorry but I've had enough. I've tried to work to foster understanding, fairness, etc. but today I experienced the absolute last straw. There is far too much ignorance on DU and not enough people working to speak up for the rights of those that post here.

Some are using this M. Richards thing as an excuse to be cruel and racist. Just like they did during the Mel Gibson thing. It's the same core group of people and no one is holding them accountable for it, or stopping them from doing so. So apparently I and people like me are not valued members of DU. Those that continue to be disruptive and argue people down that dare state a differing point of view are who matters here.

There's one forum on this board that I still enjoy and can talk about things not related to race, sex, politics, etc. I may still post there--I don't know.

Thanks to those that made the efforts with me--I appreciate you. You know who you are. The rest of you, you know who you are...and you know what you can do, as far as I'm concerned. :)

I've so enjoyed your posts and truly hope you stay but I understand why you feel the need to leave. I've read the Michael Richard posts and participated in other threads in the past regarding racism and have come to the conclusion that there are many folks that post on this "progressive forum" that are NEVER going to open their minds, understand and LISTEN to what we have to say. At this point, I no longer can stomach responding to threads regarding race because trying to explain my views as an African American to these people falls upon deaf ears. They seem to think that they're the experts:eyes:. It's exhausting.

I wish you the best and hope you at least continue to visit and post here on the AA board.

But then I realized that as you said, it was only a small core group of people. Probably the same people you are talking about. Most of us here are on your side.

Honestly, I rarely go into the big forums anymore because I find them too negative and too time consuming. I hit my groups regularly, go to the greatest page and the home page. I also find that the hide thread feature is my good friend.

For what it is worth, some of us are really trying to understand the problems of race and class in america. Race is sometimes a hard thing for white people to talk/post about. I am not defending people who don't speak up when they hear something wrong, just saying that a lot of us are very uncomfortable about speaking about race at all, especially with people of color. It's lame, but I know that when I started posting about racism, I felt a lot of anxiety that I would inadvertently say something stupid or racist and get called out for it, so I would read things I knew were wrong, but feel kind of paralyzed about what to say in response. Again, no excuse for not standing up for what is right. I guess my point is that there are many who are reading your posts, who agree with you, and who are learning from you who do not necessarily chime into the conversation.

I missed the Richards threads due to being away for the holiday. Sounds like it was just as well.......
