Other Active African American discussion boards

Anybody aware of any active discussion boards dealing with social issues? I've pretty much stayed with blogs because I've found AA boards.

I really would like to find some AA boards that have serious discussions regarding current events, social issues, politics etc. I've only been able to find blogs so far.....can a sister get some help? I've noticed that AA issues are not of particular concern on the main boards here.

7. Would like to see this forum used a bit more. I know there are quite a few black posters here

EffieBlack (where is she??), Bronxboy, elkston, Frenchiecat, HeatherMC, Raineyb, RenaissanceMan, HamdenRice... and I'm sure that's just the tip of the iceberg.

As ugly as this board has been lately, I would have thought this forum would become a sanctuary.

12. It's been a while since I typed this post. I'll be damned if 1/3 of the folks I listed

still post here. Black folks are seriously heading for the exits on DU, aren't they?? I honestly can't blame them sometimes.

It seems to happen in waves. For some reason, at one point, there were all these posts by militant pet owners about the treatment of dogs and cats in Asia, which degenerated into "Chinese eat cats and dogs" posts. There were lots of Asian-Americans saying that this is not true, despite the rare deliberately exotic restaurants in Korea and China that serve that, almost no Chinese people have ever eaten dogs or cats. But there was this attitude toward the Asian DUers, DUers who had family there, and DUers who had traveled there (like me) who were saying it's rare and exostic, that "you don't know what you're talking about but we white people do. Asian people are disgusting because they eat dogs and cats."

Then there are the paranoid posts about the Chinese deliberately poisoning everything. I'd be shocked if there are any Asians left. I remember a number of self-identified Asians publicly leaving.

Similar waves have happened to us.

I haven't looked at the Afrosphere lately. I was really disappointed how some from earlier in the decade degenerated, from normal discussion, until the Nation of Islam types took over all political discussion on a number of them, and they went downhill even more after than.

I actually had an acquaintance in Brooklyn who was some sort of web master for I think it was "Black Planet" or something analogous. It was one of the big ones. As it went down hill, he said that he became disgusted with his job because the forum had essentially become a forum for prostitutes to troll for customers, and he called himself an internet pimp. The big problem back then was that in the spirit of inclusion, they had no sense of how to moderate and keep waves of spammers out.

I'll check out the ones posted, which seem to be blog based rather than forum based.

15. I get on the AR people's collective case now and then...

If I had a dollar for every time that I've asked them not to compare blacks to dogs! I wouldn't be rich, but I'd sure have plenty of beer money. Yet they keep doing it, no matter how many times they're asked not to.

I've also had to argue for the rights of indigenous nations to live sustainably on what's left of their territories -- without further interference from clueless people who think that because seals are so cute, the Inuit should give up hunting and just live on food stamps (and be duly resented for it, of course).


Don't get me wrong. I have a cat, and I love him. I'll defend the Alaska Native whale quota, but I'd probably lose my lunch if I had to watch the actual harpooning. My emotional responses to that sort of thing are pretty much like those of most people in the "mainstream" society.


But honestly, I do think that some "liberals" eventually gravitate toward animal activism because in it they find a target for their do-gooding that can't talk back -- a distinct advantage if one is a bossy little "activist" who always has to call the shots.

Pam's House Blend seems more about gay, lesbian issues than issues pertaining to people of color. But any site that has a video skewering that idiot clown Michael Steele is all right with me. :) I actually laughed out loud at that mess.
