RE, MJ: Regardless of the Circus Atmosphere created by the Media
The Memorial Service was done in very good taste,
and proved to be the appropriate send off for a great artist.

So, I dreaded the Media's 2 weeks worth of non stop reporting on Michael Jackson's death,
but appreciated that his family did a good job with just the right tribute, IMO.

1. And wanted to also mention that

Pastor Lucious Smith, who spoke at the beginning
and at the end of the memorial, is a dead ringer for my Hubby!
I had never seen this guy before, but I couldn't believe it. :wow:

Pastor Lucious Smith and his family

My Hubby!

2. What I could catch of the service was
indeed well done! I'm sure I'll be able to catch it all the rest of this week during constant replays.

3. Absolutely, Frenchie, Absolutely. I cried when Lionel Ritchie
and Mariah sang. I'm almost glad I didn't see Usher sing, Gone Too Soon. Online, they said Usher broke down in tears after his song. Such a tremendous loss for us all.

5. It was a thoroughly beautiful memorial
I shed a tear or two when his daughter took the mic.

Loved the speeches by Magic, Brooke, Smokey, Al Sharpton and Sheila Jackson Lee.

8. Unfortunately I was away and missed it
but I've seen some clips from it and it looked well done and very moving. Hopefully it will be played in full later tonight so I can see it.

Also, I caught the clip of Jermaine Jackson singing Cry and I must say I never realized what a beautiful voice he has!

12. I watched the entire broadcast (a replay)on msnbc.
as I missed it, too.

I started watching a replay on CNN, but for some reason it stopped suddenly (at random). So I switched to msnbc. If you have cable, TV One (is showing on the guide) as airing the Memorial in full tonight and tomorrow. You should have luck w/replays on-line if you miss it on cable.

I was also surprised when I heard Jermaine singing, or should I say reminded. He has a lovely singing voice. It's so weird, we forget that they ALL sang, as part of the Jackson 5. But because Michael became the break out star and everyone's focus, we seem to tend to forget about the others.

I remember Rebie's record in the 80's...I think the song was called, Centipede. lol. She wasn't Janet, but I don't recall it as being bad.

9. They've shown clips on the news but it won't actually be aired here until tonight
But what I've seen so far, it looks to have been a surprisingly tasteful affair. There is no way that you can have a celebration of MJ without music. And I'm so happy to see that much of the memorial was full of his music.

11. Are you sure, Karenina?? You know that everything that black folks get involved with
soon erupts into violence, rioting and all types of criminal behavior.

Maybe they just haven't shown it on the news yet in the spirit of our nation's spanking new "post-racialism." :eyes:

15. I wonder how the poster who advised there would be fist fights,
prostitutes, and something else feels now. Assholes.
