Sotomayor hearings...SERENITY NOW!
I can't wait for this to be over. Perhaps I am too emotionally invested, but four days of hate is nearly doing me in. Why does nobody ever question whether a white male will allow his background to shape his experience? Alito straight up said it did. At his confirmation, he said that his family's experience with discrimination against Italians shapes his decisions regarding discrimination cases. Yet nobody has ever suggested that his ruling on the Rioci case is anything less than good law.

I really really hope that every minority remembers this display of ignorance come the next few elections.

1. lol Girl, you are crazy.
"Serenity Now" indeed! :)

Don't you know that the rules for white men are different from EVERY SINGLE OTHER PERSON in this country?? Minorities won't need to have to remember this type of ignorance. It's in our faces every single day no matter how hard we may try to forget!

I can't believe how horrible this whole thing has been.

Totally understand what you've been going through. Hang in there!

4. it's a disgusting display or what i am sure she has experienced her entire career
because she is a latina. i definitely feel her pain...and yours. those assholes are AFRAID of the payback they know they so richly deserve, and that's one of the many reasons why they are fearful of people or color with power. they are afraid we will treat them the way they've treated us.

5. It was hard watching most of the coverage.

At times I was angry, at other times really sad. Will there ever be an equal playing field?

Stephen Colbert had an interesting take on the Sotomayor vs. Alito hearings last night. If you haven't seen it, it is well worth the time. I think he nailed it, particularly the end. Here's the link:

6. SemiCharmed, others were also emotionally invested this week.
A poor woman called Washington Journal on Thursday admitting to cornyn that the whole Sotomayor hearing has scared her. She has so much love, but so much fear.

Ann from Maryland, republican line

For a moment, cornyn seemed flummoxed but, like all good politicians (and used car salesmen), had a response. I waited, but alas, he did not directly evoke MLK. :D
