I picked the wrong time to take a break from this joint
I took a few days off from DU last week. Went to Melbourne with my hubby and made a point of not logging on here. I see I picked the WRONG DAMN TIME to break from DU 'cause today would have been the perfect Just Say No to DU day.

Lord, I have seen more wailing and breast-beating here today than I've seen in the last year. Adding insult to injury, the main ones here who have ALWAYS hated the President, never said one decent thing about him, and have cried that he "threw them under the bus" even before he was sworn into office are now trying to pat themselves on the back as though the discussion over the public option has "proven" that Obama is a sell out.

Compounded with the growing narrative on DU that Obama is a "wimp" and I'm about ready to start throwing down around here.

1. I am glad I took a break this weekend
I actually enjoyed it and didn't have to deal with the noise and heat from DUers who believe everything the media says.

2. I hear you.
It's starting to get to the point though that I'm enjoying my breaks (when I take them) more and more. So what the hell is the point of coming here??

And it's not just DUers who believe everything the media says. It's also the one that can't jump fast enough to embrace and scream "see I told you so!one!" at EVERY even semi-negative story about Obama, no matter how half-witted and untrue. And it's funny 'cause when the man does something right, these folks are nowhere to be found.

3. It's getting easier and easier to stay away...
The same people that posted nothing but garbage even before the man was sworn in are on fire here. The same one's that posted bull about the ridiculous cost of his inauguration & slammed the public option because it wasn't single payer, are suddenly public option experts. It's the same crew. It's been non stop with certain posters since prior to the election. Sickening. They act as if the man can write the bill himself and sign it. They truly want him to be the magic negro.

4. Preach
slammed the public option because it wasn't single payer, are suddenly public option experts.

Girl, I almost choked on a damn Dorito yesterday. One of the loudest, most shrill protesters in GD-P, one who screamed every single chance she got that single payer was the ONLY option and that the public option was YET ANOTHER example of Obama shilling for his corporate overlords, was the MAIN ONE hollering when it was thought that the public option was off the table.

Suddenly, the option that was no where near good enough before, and was only going to appease the insurance companies was the BEST choice and Obama was selling us out for not giving it to us. I'd laugh if this kind of thing wasn't so ridiculous and far too common here.

5. Ridiculous it is.....
Edited on Mon Aug-17-09 11:34 PM by firedupdem
The actual hate some people here have for the President is ridiculous. He's not perfect and no president is but damn....I didn't hate bush this much 8 months in! There is very little real discussion left. I come to AAIG, take a look around and get the hell out of here. When I checked in yesterday and saw "F&ck Obama" and "Why should I even vote for this guy in 2012?", I knew it was time to log off and go elsewhere.

9. Totally different...it's more for friends and family..There are a few
groups that I belong to and get updates from. Mostly my buddies and family members. I do get links form TPM, JackandJill, and another guy just started a supportive Obama group.

19. I try to avoid talking politics on Facebook. Mostly I play really stupid games
and sent messages to my actual friends (as opposed to the people I've friended for gaming purposes)

7. I'm gonna be blunt: Some of these people here are assholes!
They are just as bad as those mobs at those town hall meetings, but instead of attacking the President with their mouths they use their keyboards. I even saw a post attacking Michelle over this public option uproar! Bunch of jackals!

8. PT, I have seen people attack the Obamas over EVERYTHING
No issue is too small, too trivial or too half-assed. One self-declared "feminist" tried to chew off Michelle's ass when she started focusing on her status as Mom in Chief, going out of her way to ignore the all of the drama that Michelle took when she first hit the campaign trail for daring to express herself. Nothing either of these people can do is good enough, is right.

I'm concerned about the public option and the health care debate too and I don't even LIVE in the damn States. But the "lay all of this at Obama's feet while ignoring everyone else that contributed to this foolishness" crowd has gone way pass pissing me off.

Some of these people here are assholes!

Well, there's always that too... :)

11. +1
A lot of what I'm seeing lately contributed to my decision to leave the States. Americans DO NOT feel comfortable when minorities are in leadership positions. Rather than sitting on their congresscritters' doorsteps DEMANDING THEY BE PROPERLY REPRESENTED, they much prefer sniping at Obama. Gee, wonder what THAT'S about? :eyes:

I hear there will be a march on D.C. September 13. It's a Sunday.

12. You are absolutely right
Rather than sitting on their congresscritters' doorsteps DEMANDING THEY BE PROPERLY REPRESENTED, they much prefer sniping at Obama. Gee, wonder what THAT'S about?

Hell yeah. And they will lay any and EVERYTHING at his feet, whether he deserves it or not while blissfully ignoring the 6014 other players whose roles may be just as significant as Obama's.

Hell, my Superman thread should be about Obama since he is the one everyone expects to be able to do everything by himself with no Congressional support and without the continued interest of the American public.

I hear there will be a march on D.C. September 13. It's a Sunday.

If this is true, I think that this is great and hope that the turnout is huge. There needs to be more represented in this story than the idiotic Republicans screaming and bringing guns to a damn debate on health care reform. :silly:  Sometimes I am straight up embarrassed to be an American. Not often, but it's becoming more and more frequent in the last few months.

20. Where do you plan to go if you don't mind my asking
My sisters have been trying to get me to go to Europe but I've been concerned about the language issues. They speak at least 3 and I barely speak 1 1/2. One lives in Brussels, the other in London. I'm seriously considering it as I have often thought of leaving the country on more than one occasion to be honest. I've been considering a purchase of that Rosetta stone to learn French which I would like to think would be helpful.

Of course nothing happens until after I finish school so right now that's my main objective.

24. Ah. I've spent time in Germany. It's nice there. Can't say I'm all that crazy about the food
though.

I'm considering France or Belgium myself. But I don't speak French.

My sister lives in Brussels so at least there'd be one person in the city I'd know. Brussels would put me near my father as well. France would put me closer to my other sister in London. I would really love to live near Paris.

But back to the topic: I think it's time for another extended DU vacay, and focus on grassroots stuff.

15. "I think it's time for another extended DU vacay"
It actually seems to be getting worse around here. People seem to be becoming even more unhinged, unglued. Not a day goes by without some profanity ladden, BS OP screaming about NOTHING making it to the top of the Greatest page.

Some of these people need lives. Or a good priest. Either one...

16. Democrats are good at being the underdog
...backs against the wall, fighting for a common goal and purpose. The focus isn't on differences, but common objectives.

BUT: Democrats can't handle being in the majority very well. The united fighting spirit that brings the party to the majority also turns us against each other in the "big tent." The "pet issues" come to the front and battle lines are drawn.

I'm sick of it, myself. Fighting for the sake of fighting. Over STUPID stuff. Makes you wonder if the people in GD: P and GD are as angry, bitter and obnoxious in real life as they are here. x(

because most of the arguments and fighting are totally juvenile.

You are exactly right: people fighting over stupid stuff. Really stupid stuff..

Finding the gems of insight among the dross of petty politics is harder and harder.

18. The police abuse threads are just as bad
Every time there's a story about some cop acting like an asshole and abusing his authority there's always the same assholes making excuses. The latest is about a sixth grader who says she was choked by the police school officer (who is also black) because she didn't want to take some picture or other. The conclusion jumped to is that the child is emotionally disturbed which must mean that it's then okay for a cop to choke the child.

:grr:

It makes you want to reach out and strangle a motherfucker.
