Reborn Vibe Magazine Names New Editor
The rapid resurrection of Vibe magazine continues: on Monday the new owners of the revived hip-hop and R&B magazine said they had chosen Jermaine Hall as editor in chief of Vibe and its Web site, vibe.com. Mr. Hall has previously served as the editor in chief of King magazine, a monthly title geared to African-American men that ceased publication earlier this year.

He was also music editor at the rap magazine The Source and the webmaster at Vibe. In a telephone interview, Brett Wright, co-chief executive of the Vibe Lifestyle Network, said that vibe.com would provide coverage of urban music and entertainment on a “regular, daily, hourly, by-minute basis” while the print magazine would focus on investigative reporting and long-form stories.

The first issue of the new quarterly Vibe magazine is planned for a November release. The long-running publication shut down in June when its previous owners said they could not find new buyers or restructure the company’s debt. It was bought this month by InterMedia Partners, a private equity fund.

I didn't even know VIBE had ceased...I was one of the first subscribers way back when I was in 10th grade...

Just thinking about Vibe takes me back to my undergrad days. It's been a looong time since I even looked at Vibe which is a shame because I loved it so much once.

I'm not too excited about the man from King taking over. King had some of the nastiest magazine covers I've ever seen.

2. His time with The Source doesn't comfort me either
Hopefully he worked their before Benzino, quite possibly the biggest embarrassment to ever come out of Boston, ruined it.

I agree about the King covers. They tried to pretend like they were somehow enlightened because the models had some curves but that doesn't mean they still didn't look like cheap porn.

3. Oh my God. BENZINO!!
Lord, I haven't heard that name in EONS! Was he an idiot or what??

He reminds me of that fool Cannibis, the guy who five minutes on the scene decided to try to take on LL COOL J. Mr. GOAT himself! Got his ass handed to him so hard that even his mama felt it. And he was never seen or heard from again!

4. Maybe he's still in his Y2K bunker?
When I was college I watched an interview Canibus did about how the life as we know it would change and all the global devastation we'd see after 12/31/1999. I was curious what happened to him so I looked it up and after several failed attempts at living up to his next big thing hype he joined the army. He said it was to escape music, as if his dozens of fans were keeping him in the game, but he was kicked out of the army because Canibus still likes his cannabis.
