Schools not showing the President's speech on Tuesday?
Edited on Thu Sep-03-09 02:52 PM by firedupdem
This country truly makes me sick! And people still push the "it's not about race meme"...after all "he's part white" :grr:

Just reading some of these posts about school systems not showing the speech due to pressure from parents! A speech from the president about doing your best in school etc? What happened to respect for the Office of the President? I guess that doesn't apply when it's a black person in the office!

Unbelievable!

Just a sample:

2. I'm sitting here shaking my head. This shit would not be happening
with any other president. It makes me just want to cry and I'm angry at the same time. The disrespect is something else.

Ed just said it...Amazing and Insulting.

That's why everytime I go to a sporting even and these mf's jump up to sing to that flag I fucking cringe! :grr:

3. I knew we would see "some" nut jobs but not on this scale.
HE may be "post racial" but apparently the rest of the country is NOT!

4. It's bad......the nutjobs are truly sending out the dog whistles...
they want him gone...completely gone.

What did that senator from Idaho say today? "He's destroying everything good in America" That statement is surely telling somebody to be a hero, and rescue the country from this guy.

:grr:

6. I shudder the thought. Girl, if that happens this country will
lose the black constituency and we may never return. I don't care if Barney Frank, Kuch, Dean, Kerry, Franken or anybody else comes along, we will never vote again. Cooperation from the black community will be non-existent. I honestly believe that.

7. They really need to keep him safe.
I try not to think like that, but the hate seems to be getting worse by the day.

This thing with the back to school speech has pretty much made me super bitter.

:(

9. Its infuriating
Obama will have his 2 terms and hopefully in that time the crazies and racists will have either died off or be totally irrelevant (as they should be now).

11. NYC schools don't even start until tomorrow.
It's too bad they'll miss the speech.

These assholes don't know how lucky they are and they bitch about the man making a speech to kids about doing well in school?

13. A regular poster on this board has admitted to keeping his kids home
so they won't see the speech.

Am I supposed to be chastened by saying that it's racism that motivates such a move?

The discussion is about cultural values. What cultural value has you pull your child out of school so that they don't see a speech to them from the President about doing well and trying your best? My assessment? This person didn't want their children to see a black man as someone worthy of respect rather than someone they tolerated while still harboring the notion of their own superiority.

Of course this clown is also one who always has an excuse for the police abusing people so it's not all that much of a surprise that he'd do such a thing. Why this person is still allowed here is beyond me.
