The "get out of racism free card"
The mirror image of the so-called race card.

Find one deluded black individual that supports an essentially racist organization, and like magic, that organization can no longer be called racist! They have black supporters!

Here is an example of one, lifted from another thread where someone was trying to pull this card out to defend the Sons of Conferderate Veterans. This gentleman comes from multiple generations of confused black men.

In defense of his Confederate pride

Nelson Winbush is intent on defending the flag of his grandfather. It's just surprising which flag that is.

1. Same round of "selective" history
The war was fought for states' rights, nothing to do with slavery, south was overly taxed--blah, blah, blah. Wouldn't be so bad if he was somewhat original, but he tells the same crock told by the neo-confederates. The fact that a black man says in makes them feel better, rather, they have a convenient lawn jockey, uh, their "one black friend" to deflect charges of racism. :eyes:

The states' Articles of Secession tell the REAL story, and they didn't mince words when they wrote of why they wanted to secede. The Confederate Army never had any black soldiers, though Gen. Patrick Cleburn was a proponent of using black soldiers. The few black soldiers for the Confederacy fought for militia and/or volunteer units with their masters. I could not find any instance of a slave that escaped to fight FOR the Confederacy. The few black confederate veterans should be a testament to the immorality of the Confederacy, not a confirmation of it. To add, it isn't a good idea to arm the people that you went to war to oppress.

Will they EVER get over it? :banghead:

4. Don't forget "It's Heritage Not Hate!"
I do not take Nazi comparison's lightly, but centuries of slavery, I feel, is a valid comparison. To me, saying "it's heritage not hate" is like hanging a Nazi flag outside your door if you are of German ancestry and saying "Hey, it's not about hate or genocide. I'm just celebrating my heritage!"

2. he sure is getting a lot of positive attention for his "courageous" stance
and it doesn't matter that most historians disagree with him.

3. For crying out loud!
I have an ancestor who escaped from the plantation and joined a maroon colony. After about 18 months, he was spotted and chased through the swamps. They managed to escape to Camp Parapet in Louisiana and joined Col Hanks regiment. His brother also escaped and made his way to Boston where he joined the 54th Mass. featured in the movie "Glory".

I also have 3 direct ancestors who fought for the Confederacy. I like to believe they fought only because they had no choice. They were not wealthy slave owners so they had nothing to gain or lose by fighting that war. On the other hand, I know they may have had the "stupid" gene. Possibly they believed in the cause. But, I did not inherit the "stupid" gene. Or maybe my Union ancestors canceled out the "stupid" gene.

That has to be the most ridiculous reason for supporting the SOCV. My husband has an ancestor who was the sibling of a famous voodoo queen. But, he doesn't run around throwing gris gris on his enemies.
