SUMMIT COUNTY, Colo. - A white man has been arrested and charged with a bias-motivated felony. He's accused of dragging an African-American woman out of a bar by her hair, according to a report from the Summit County Sheriff's Office.
Witnesses and the victim say 37-year-old Dustin Meadows got into an argument with the woman at the Cala Inn in Summit County Saturday night.
The sheriff's office report says witnesses told investigators meadows used a racial epithet and obscenities shortly after the argument began.
The report says the suspect was near the door, calling the victim names, when she got up and yelled at him to leave. The victim says he grabbed her by the hair and pulled her out the door of the bar.
The victim was "visibly shaken" when deputies arrived, according to the report. The victim had both of her hands full of her hair, and it was apparent that the whole right side of her head was missing hair, it went on to say.
The suspect left, and was followed by two witnesses to a condominium. They later brought deputies to the residence, where Meadows was arrested. He was charged with a felony bias-motivated crime for assault and four misdemeanors related to harassment and assault.
The sheriff's office report says the argument began when the suspect allegedly spilled beer on the victim while he was dancing. She turned to him and asked, "What, no apology?"
