Michael Powell is resigning from the FCC

and I can't say that it makes me too unhappy, no, I am happy to see him go.

The whole brouhaha with Janet Jackson's nipple was about as ridiculous as it gets. I think that Michael misses most of the positive qualities of his father, and to me has a great deal of arrogance, more than any other quality.

His attempts to allow more media centralization were pretty reprehensible, too.

He made unimportant things important and important things unimportant... his reaction to jackson and stern while ignoring oprah's antics says everything to me--he was in the pocket of dobson and others of that ilk.

As has been said in other columns, I'm more concerned about who is going to replace him now.

2. I'm glad he's getting out of public life,

though I wonder if he'll be lobbying now. He used his office to hawk - what was it? - HDTV or something, didn't he? That was weird coming from someone whose primary focus was upholding morality.
