I pray that her family is okay. With every story I read about the earthquake, the situation seems to keep getting worse.

2. Me too girl. I usually catch her on facebook but haven't talked to

her today. It is really sad. There is a FB page with lots of really bad pictures. Breaks my heart. MSNBC reports that the city of Port au Prince (sp?) is basically destroyed.

for some reason her name has gone out of my head, she is the homeless lady who sleeps in a car.

With the real cold spells that have hit recently I worry about her. I really hope she is ok.

5. i am really saddened by this and also very worried.

Haiti is such a human tragedy, which followed the very lucky escape of Central USA. I'm no 2012 believer, but I do worry about a pattern developing.

Haiti already suffered massive levels of poverty and this just compounds it. Haiti is a proud Country and there is much going for it (if you are going to be poor it is far far better to be poor where the sun is hot)

Of all the things that could hit them, this. For those that survive, I really hope that things get better.

PM fears death toll above 100,000; food, water needed, aid worker says


PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti - Haitians piled bodies along the devastated streets of their capital Wednesday after a powerful earthquake crushed thousands of structures, from schools and shacks to the National Palace and the local U.N. headquarters. Untold numbers were still trapped.

Prime Minister Jean-Max Bellerive told Reuters that he believed the casualties would be "in the range of thousands of dead."

Soon after, however, Bellerive told CNN that "I believe we are well over 100,000" dead, while Haitian Sen. Youri Latortue said it could be 500,000. Both admit they have no way of knowing. Other officials said it was too early to give a precise accounting of the toll.

Aid workers reported widespread destruction and suffering.

"It's the most horrific thing I've ever seen," Bob Poff, a Salvation Army worker in Port-au-Prince, told MSNBC. "We have to get food and water" quickly, he said, in describing conditions that range from stifling heat to numerous aftershocks. "We're trying to stay alive."

‘Please take me out’
Sobbing and dazed people wandered the streets of Port-au-Prince, and voices cried out from the rubble.

"Please take me out, I am dying. I have two children with me," a woman told a journalist from under a collapsed kindergarten.

The International Red Cross said some 3 million people may have been affected.

And I'm annoyed because I woke up this morning with the sole purpose of donating to the IRC and they don't take Aussie dollars. :mad:

looking at the news, and they were showing children in Miami at Mass praying for family members in Haiti. So sad. This is making me as sick as Katrina did.

13. I LOVE them. But I think it will be easier to go with a local (Aussie) org

that is doing relief work. I'm sure that the local groups (Oxfam, Red Cross) are taking donations.

I've done some work with MSF and more than a few other orgs. They are tops.

15. I went with UNICEF Australia although in hindsight, I could have easily gone with

MSF Australia since they have an office here. And what's sad is that I KNEW MSF had an office in Australia. ((shaking my head)) This damn pregnancy brain is NO JOKE. I can barely remember my own name most days. Oh well, I'll probably wind up giving to MSF Australia too. :)

16. You are so sweet...

I was talking to another friend that gave birth just before Thanksgiving. She just went back to work and she said she felt really clueless. lol The body is going through so many changes while you grow that precious baby. Hang in there sweetie...you're doing fine! :)

17. Wow, she's back to work after only two months??

Between the hormones, the tiredness and the separation issues from the baby she must be a mess! Poor thing.

My oldest was 16 months before we put her in child care (and that was only for two days a week) and we'll probably do something similar with this one. Thanks for your sweet words. Sometimes it's nice to hear that even when you can't tell whether you're coming or going, that folks understand. :)

18. Yes, and only had those 8 weeks because she had a C section...

a vaginal birth gets you 6 weeks. You are so blessed. I didn't work till my oldest was 2, and it was a scene almost everyday taking him to daycare. We were both crying every morning.
I had to get back to work with the second one and it was awful. I had only 6 weeks off and I was a mess. Hated leaving him, crying darn near everyday and I didn't function too well at work because I couldn't stop thinking of my baby. I had a really nice older lady that kept him, and my crazy brain would come up with all sorts of crazy scenarios and things that 'might' happen. It was rough! I think you can do FMLA time but it's unpaid and lots of people can't afford it.
