The Root: The Blackest White Folks we Know

"The Blackest White Folks we Know"

"The Root takes a look at those who claim "blackness" and those that we think make the cut -- whether they like it or not."

Some of these are no surprise (Christina Aguilera, Eminem, Justin Timerlake); some of these are weird (Anderson Cooper??); some are stupid as hell (Kim Kardashian?? Just 'cause she's dating a black guy?? Please.) and some of these are damn funny (guess which former Georgia politician is ONCE AGAIN getting called out on being black??!)

2. I know! lol
Gotta love it. A picture and right to it, a single word: "No." :)

I still think that Rod Blagojevich needs his ass kicked for what he said. His comments were so stupid and so offensive that they (almost) defy belief. His idea that because he "shined shoes" he knows what it's like to be black more than Obama does STILL has me shaking my damn head. Obama's election has exposed even more racial stupidity and cluelessness in this country than I even imagined it would.

3. Jeremy Shockey?

Heh ... I've got stories about him from when he was in high school. I'd post some, but knowing him and with my luck, I'd end up being sued.

Suffice to say he talks smack. Talks.

4. Can we have a racial draft à la Dave Chappelle to give away Coco and Kid Rock?

5. I know, right?? Both of them are just so...

I think we should be able to trade Ron Christie for both of them.

6. It is hilarious and perceptive at the same time.
Teena Marie, Micheal Rappaport,

Bill Maher, no way. He likes the black women, and he is a shit towards all women. So ...

Phil Jackson, yes.

Robert Downey was amazing in that role. Talk about taking risks and doing it right.

and I think Ken Burns looks like an alien, as in from some other planet.

7. I'm disappointed Tim Wise isn't on that list.
I know they were mostly focusing on people in popular culture, but he speaks of race relations in this country with AUTHORITY. He KNOWS his sh*t.

At my house in the 70s, honorary black status was conferred on Hall & Oates, Rod Stewart, Elton John, Bobby Caldwell, KC of KC and the Sunshine Band, Tony Bennett and Frank Sinatra. Annie Lennox and George Michael in the 80s.

I'd swap out Jamiroquai for Kid Rock and Lisa Stansfield for Kim Kardashian anyday!

I think Brad Pitt's got a little bit of soul, too. More than Anderson Cooper...

8. Love it!

Oh I am sooo with you on giving Honorary Negro Status to Annie Lennox and George Michael. "Faith" was one of the greatest albums EVER and was the second album I ever bought after "Thriller." Girl, I play "Hard Day" and "Too Funky" by GM just about every day around my house even today! My three-year old is starting to learn the words. And Annie is just too cool you KNOW she's got some black in there somewhere! :)

I'm with you, I think Brad Pitt has got a little something too. I've always felt that this life would go alot smoother if he just hooked up with a sista. I think I'd add Peter Gabriel ("Big Time" and "Shock the Monkey" have waaayyy too much flavor) that guy from Simply Red and my girl Pink to that list too. I adore Pink. I remember when she first came out, NO ONE believed she was white even after seeing her in the flesh.

We know soul when we see it. (Even if it's just a tiny bit.) :-)

(How on earth could I forget Michael McDonald?! :wow: )

There are a couple of DUers that I'd give Honorary status to. Bloo would DEFINITELY be on that list. :)
