FORT HOOD, Texas — Leaders of a Pentagon investigation into the Fort Hood shootings are at the Texas Army post today.
Two former Pentagon officials, former Army Secretary Togo West and former Navy chief Vernon Clark were appointed to lead the 45-day review. They will examine procedures for identifying volatile U.S. military service members hidden in the ranks and lapses that might allow others to slip through unnoticed.
It’s unclear if they will try to talk to Maj. Nidal Hasan, who’s been charged with 13 counts of premeditated murder in the Nov. 5 shooting. He remains in intenstive care at a San Antonio military hospital recovering from gunshot wounds.
Hasan’s civilian attorney, John Galligan, told The Associated Press today that it’s highly unlikely he would allow the Pentagon team or anyone else to question his client.
