A Marine sergeant died in a motorcycle accident in Hawaii early Tuesday.
Sgt. Alex A. Limjoco was a helicopter avionics technician assigned to Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 363, Marine Aircraft Group 24, at the Kaneohe Bay air station, Marine Corps Base Hawaii, officials said in a news release.
Limjoco, 24, was riding a 2008 Suzuki GSX-R 1000 motorcycle about 12:05 a.m. Tuesday in the neighboring beach community of Kailua when he lost control and hit a telephone pole and then a nearby concrete wall, according to Honolulu police. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Limjoco was wearing a helmet. Police investigators suspected that speed was a factor in the crash and were awaiting toxicology results to determine whether alcohol or drugs played any role.
The motorcycle fatality is the first involving a Kaneohe Bay service member since 2003, 2nd Lt. Justine Roberts, a base spokeswoman, said in a statement. Limjoco had completed the basic riders, group riders and sport bike riders’ courses, she said.
