TRENTON, N.J. — A former National Guard recruiter is getting probation for stealing from a program that pays cash incentives for recruiting new soldiers.
Gregory Fletcher, 33, of Lower Township, pleaded guilty in October to theft by deception.
Authorities announced Friday that he’s been sentenced to three years probation, community service, and must pay back $8,500.
The program offers National Guard soldiers up to $2,000 per recruit they refer. Full-time recruiters like Fletcher aren’t eligible.
He created accounts for part-time soldiers, submitted false records that showed they had referred eight recruits, then had the payments sent to his bank account.
