BOISE, Idaho — U.S. Rep Mike Simpson says the Mountain Home Air Force Base is in line to get $20 million to replace an outdated supply building beyond an affordable repair job.
The Idaho Republican says the spending request is contained in a year-end appropriations bill that is expected to win approval by Congress later this month.
If approved, the money would be used to help build the base a new logistical supply building that would replace the existing facility — a 53-year-old wooden structure that is condemned.
The bill also contains nearly $700,000 for planning and design of a new civil engineering maintenance complex. Those operations are now spread among 10 wooden buildings from the World War II-era and Korean War.
Simpson says it’s unacceptable to have unsafe structures that pose a risk to airmen and staff.
