HONOLULU — Two Navy ships are slated to return to Pearl Harbor on Tuesday after separate deployments to the 7th Fleet area of responsibility in the Western Pacific and Indian Ocean.
The Crommelin is a guided-missile frigate with nearly 220 officers and enlisted personnel. The O'Kane is a guided-missile destroyer manned by nearly 270 officers and enlisted personnel.
Navy officials say the Crommelin and O'Kane provided deterrence, promoted peace and security, preserved freedom of the seas and humanitarian/disaster response within 7th Fleet's 52 million-square-mile-area of responsibility.
During its visit to Guam, Crommelin's sailors were awarded special operation ribbons for support of a U.S. Coast Guard mission to protect natural resources.
