The overseas cost-of-living allowance was increased Dec. 16 for service members stationed at 14 locations in Alaska, the Pentagon announced.
The changes, measured by changes in the overseas COLA index, vary by location. Translated into dollars, an E-4 stationed at Fort Greeley with less than two years’ service, without dependents and not living in the barracks will now be paid $15.66 daily — an increase of $2.09. An O-4 stationed at Fort Richardson with eight years’ service and two dependents will see his overseas COLA bumped $4.60 to $29.90 a day.
Service members can calculate their current overseas COLA rate online.
COLA pay supplements the higher overseas prices of non-housing goods and services. Rates are adjusted based on periodic surveys of family shopping patterns and the prices of goods and services. Analyses of the most recent prices survey resulted in the new overseas COLA rates for the Alaska locations, the Pentagon said.
