ANNAPOLIS, Md. — The U.S. Naval Academy says it has not found sufficient evidence to bring charges against a male midshipman accused of sexually assaulting a female midshipman during summer training.
The academy said Monday the case will not proceed to an Article 32 hearing, where an officer determines if there is probable cause to bring a defendant to trial.
A female Naval Academy midshipman reported the alleged assault in July during training in San Diego.
Last week, the Academy announced that the commanding officer of a ship in Norfolk, Va., concluded it did not find enough evidence to charge anyone in a separate case there, in which a female midshipman reported being sexually assaulted while on summer training in June in Norfolk, Va.
