BETHESDA, Md. — Federal and state officials are announcing more than $100 million in transportation improvements near the expanding military medical campus in Bethesda.
A news conference was scheduled for Tuesday to announce congressional approval of Base Realignment and Closure funds.
The projects include upgrades to roads and the Medical Center Metro station, expected to serve an additional 4,000 passengers each day.
The work is in preparation for the 2011 opening of the new Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, when Walter Reed Army Medical Center moves its operations from Washington to the Bethesda campus of the National Naval Medical Center.
The funds are part of a $300 million package that also includes work at Fort Belvoir Community Hospital.
