BANGOR, Maine — A grand jury has indicted a Maine National Guard soldier who is accused of shooting a Newport couple last month in a botched robbery.
Police say Nathaneal Nightingale helped a forensic artist create a composite sketch of a woman who was sought by police before admitting to shooting Michael Miller Sr. and his wife, Valerie, in the head.
They were found dead on the kitchen floor of their mobile home in Webster Plantation on Nov. 28. Nightingale was arrested about two weeks later on two counts of murder.
The Bangor Daily News says Nightingale was a member of the Maine Army National Guard’s 185th Engineering Unit, based in Caribou, which is scheduled to deploy to Iraq in March.
