Mullen to speak today at Naval War College

NEWPORT, R.I. — The nation’s top military leader will talk about global security at the Naval War College in Newport.

Adm. Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, plans to address nearly 700 students and take their questions during an appearance Friday.

Mullen recently returned from meetings with Pakistani military leaders, who U.S. officials are pressuring to target al-Qaida and Taliban fighters hiding near the border with Afghanistan.

Mullen said this week that the U.S. government failed to connect the dots before a failed plot to blow up a jetliner on Christmas. Still, Mullen said information sharing on terror threats has increased since the Sept. 11 terror attacks.
