ATV riders warned to avoid Mass. guard base

FALMOUTH, Mass. — The National Guard is warning all-terrain vehicle riders to stay off Camp Edwards.

The latest incident was an ATV rider who was speeding through the woods of the 22,000-acre Massachusetts Military Reservation during deer hunting season.

The Massachusetts National Guard has sent notices reminding residents within a half-mile of the base that access must be authorized. The Guard also is reaching out to Web sites that promote the base as a place to ride all-terrain vehicles and dirt bikes.

Violations can result in fines of up to $300 and, in some cases, ATVs can be impounded.
