OCEAN SPRINGS, Miss. — Concerns are being raised by the family of a soldier from Mississippi who has been accused by Japanese authorities of negligent driving in a traffic accident that resulted in the death of a 66-year-old Okinawa man on Nov. 7.
The father of Army Staff Sgt. Clyde “Drew” Gunn says in a statement that he is concerned about his son’s rights.
Gunn’s father, Biloxi attorney Clyde H. “Buddy” Gunn III, says he has met with authorities in Okinawa and plans to return and stay until the case is resolved.
Army officials say the younger Gunn was taken into custody by Japanese authorities on Thursday.
The Army has told the Associated Press that Gunn was based at Torii Station on Okinawa. They say the Army is cooperating with the Japanese authorities.
