I posted this elsewhere, and would like to repeat myself here:
I so admire Al Gore -- I'd follow him almost anywhere. A scholar, a statesman, a leader, a real person. But Gore can't and won't run for president, at least not in 2008. The press and right wing noise machine would make him look opportunistic, using the Nobel prize honor to advance his political career.
Although Al can walk and chew gum at the same time unlike the amoeba who now calls himself president, any number of urgent national problems would fracture his attention to the climate emergency. If not mired in petty, daily political wrangling, Gore as free agent can maneuver adeptly and convert into reality his longtime cause to avert a total planetary disaster. There's no single person who has as much credibility as Gore on the climate issue. Who else could effectively turn the international community's attention to global warming as first among all issues?
Besides, the current Democratic field is strong. There's no real niche for Gore, and he'd have to compete with the rest of the field. He wouldn't automatically win the nomination. In fact, he can't win the nomination. Note - not being president in no way diminishes Gore. Has being president in any way enhanced George W. Bush's prestige?
Sadly, I must remove the Draftgore.com sticker from my car bumper.....tomorrow.

I'm not a naysayer, and I apologize for giving you the wrong impression. I really have supported the Draft Gore movement w/ $$, signing the petition, a bumper sticker, and promotion in discussions with people.
I guess what I'm saying is that I want Al to be positioned where he gets the most recognition and has the most influence.
Am I allowed to be ambivalent?

3. They do fall off the bandwagon as quickly as they jump on, don't they? |
|
Do you honestly think he can accomplish more by NOT being POTUS??? Foolish if you ask me.

I'm ready to be convinced again.
For the record, I did not fall ONTO the bandwagon quickly. I've been advocating for Gore since the 2000 debacle.

5. Every time I feel like giving up |
|
I think about our country "circling the drain" round and round on its way to hell...I am not giving up until he says so for sure and even then I am highly tempted to do a write in.
I firmly believe Gore is a FDR type leader and that is what our country needs to get us back on track.
The other candidates are not bad people but are they FDR's??? Think about it.

We'll still be in good shape as long as a Dem gets in.
I'm an idealist like you, but the last seven years have toughened me, in fact, they nearly killed me. So now my first concern is that a Democrat becomes President, and the second is that the Congressional majority be significantly increased.
My first choice for President? Al Gore
