California Ballot Initiative Halts Activities: Draft Gore statement - 11/13/2007
Nov. 13 -- Organizers of California Draft Gore, a grassroots campaign to put Al Gore's name on the California presidential primary ballot, announced today that it is halting its activities. The group is unaffiliated with Draft Gore.
"We have recently received a communication from a member of Al Gore's staff discouraging any efforts to put Al Gore's name on the primary ballot," stated Roy Gayhart, organizer for the statewide campaign. "Accordingly, effectively immediately, we have ceased our signature collection and related fund raising activities."

Draft Gore response
We commend the decision of Draft Gore California to honor Al Gore's wishes and halt its extraordinary effort to qualify Al Gore for the state primary ballot.
The decision, however, has no immediate impact on Draft Gore's activities. Our goal has been very different all along: to influence Al Gore's decision to become a candidate for President in 2008. The request from Vice President Gore's office specifically mentioned ballot efforts, not general efforts to promote a Gore candidacy.
As long as there's still time for Al Gore to enter the race and he does not give us any indication that our efforts are not welcomed, we will continue our activities.
