Vote on the Uncommitted line in the primary in Michigan? |
|
From Doug Kelley, one of the co-leaders of the Michigan Draft Gore movement:
"With an increasing possibility that NO candidate will win the nomination on the first ballot (in the Democratic National Convention in Denver in August), the possibility of the delegates turning to Gore may also be increasing. Gore supporters here in Michigan will be well advised to vote on the "Uncommitted" line, on the January 15 Democratic primary ballot. In each Congressional District in which 15% or more of voters vote "Uncommitted," one or more uncommitted delegates will be chosen (in the Spring) to go to the Dem National Convention. So . . . all is NOT lost, from a Draft Gore point of view!"
(Emphasis added.)
Now I don't know whether to vote for Dodd or Uncommitted!

All I should say at this point is watch the results from the NH primary on Jan. 8. There may be some surprises.

4. Well, the queen is still on the ballot |
|
She's the frontrunner and the only others on the ballot are Dodd, Kucinich and Gravel. Since Dodd is my second choice after Gore, right now, I still have someone to vote for. But if we want to get as many uncommitted delegates as we can, I'm better off voting uncommitted now that I know this. I'd like to see Dodd do well here, but I seriously doubt he will. I've got about 7 weeks to think about it. Stay tuned.

and I'm going to vote "Undecided". I'm such an Al Gore suppporter that I just can't get behind any of the current candidates. I'm not hopeful that Gore will enter the race, but I'm not giving up until the end. I'll then support the nominee, but man, I wish Al would run.

Welcome to the forum here catbyte. As you have been on the board for a few years longer than I, I won't say 'welcome to DU' :)

for the welcome! I'm really disgusted with the Democratic Party in MI. I don't know what the hell they're doing. I just wonder if it's some sort of ruse by Vichy Democrats to make sure that the DLC candidate, Hillary, takes the state. I'm not big on conspiracy theories, but this one makes me wonder.
Again, thanks!

I, too, am disgusted with the state party -- for many more things than just the primary. I have a laundry list of stuff I'm pissed about.

9. I'd personally rather vote for a candidate |

I think that most of the uncommitted delegates will end up voting for the frontrunner. I've decided to vote for Kucinich who is my second choice after Gore. Kucinich's delegates will be involved in writing the party's platform at the convention. And in my opinion, that's a good thing. :)

10. I've only got three more weeks to decide |
|
and figure out what to do.
I wonder if there will be any mention at the caucus for what Gore supporters can do. I highly doubt it.
I'm not savvy about the whole system. What happens with the "uncommitted" delegates?
I'm having a really hard time getting passionate about any other candidate, but right now I'm leaning towards Richardson. But if staying in the uncommitted group is a viable option that may keep a door open for Al, that would be really tempting.

12. Forgive my ignorance but, |
|
does that mean each individual delegate can vote for whomever? Or the uncommitted delegates, as a group, vote for the candidate they choose?
And how would we have any idea, if we vote "uncommitted" that our delegates will throw in for Gore? I don't really want to just throw my vote away for someone else to decide who it goes to, know what I mean? I would rather vote for a second choice candidate of my own choosing than have my vote go to someone I would be really unhappy with.

The candidates will be lobbying for the delegate's votes and many will go with the frontrunner.
Keep in mind that the delegates will write the party platform. As I mentioned further up the thread, I'm voting for Kucinich delegates.
