So I took a rare jump into the GD pool to try and make a point about the significance of the use of "In god we trust" as a national motto:

I'm betting it just drops like a stone but perhaps I'll get flamed, the least likely option I think unfortunately will be that it will spark a bit of supportive or even interesting engaged discussion.

8. You realise that's basically a quote from the bible, don't you?

"we, who are many, are one body" - 1 Corinthians 10:17
"we who are many form one body" - Romans 12:5
and maybe more.

They use it in the Anglican communion service.

the source doesn't bother me if it promotes good values and the "out of many we are one" supports a good secular value rather than the divisive "in god we trust" which sets up an 'us and them' mentality.

10. Marginally true, if at all

One could make the argument that "Land of the free and home of the brave" was a quote from the Bible, if you picked a translation that fit what you were looking for and weren't too picky in how the Biblical line was worded.

The correct phrase is "E pluribus, unum" which translates into English as "From many, one." It expressed a dearly held dream of the Founders: that many sovereign states would become one country.
