DU attitudes

There are times when I'm not sure atheists really belong on DU, considering the sort of sneering theist crap and anti-atheism I sometimes see in GD and GD:P.

3. Hah! It's not even that, though.

It's the kneejerk scorn and dismissal. I expect to see that in letters to the editor in a newspaper, but it's always depressing to see it on DU.

if we (and the gay people) on DU would just "shut the fuck up" things would be smoother. It makes me sick, too, that anytime negative aspects of religion are brought up, the christians pile on.

this attitude today.

There are times when I swear I won't go in GD or GDP ever again and then most of the time I just say fuck them, I'm not going to let them off that easy. And, boy, do I have my favorites.

In a couple of places. One was in one of the threads about Newdow's suit. Another was in a new thread, sneering at atheists for "complaining if there is a prayer, and then complaining if there isn't."

6. By nominating a moderate candidate for president, we invited many posters

with less than progressive views.

There is definitely a loud group of posters who aren't comfortable with freethought, a loud group of posters who feel the need to bully the LGBTQ posters, and a loud group that feels the need to bully the feminist posters. There's definitely some crossover between all three groups.

You may have noticed a recurring theme to some of the bullying posts of 'Suck it (group),' 'serves those uppity (group),' or '(group) should just shut up/quit whining.' The only thing you can do about it is alert on posts that cross the line and hope that the mods see reason to take action.
