What should I do with all my old bible crap?........ |
|
I still have a whole bunch of books and bibles from when I used to actually have a religion. I don't know what to do with it all, should I just throw it all out?

1. How about leaving it in a basket on the church's doorstep? |
|
People who buy all the hooey might find some comfort from it.

3. Don't throw them out. I never throw books away. |
|
There is always someone else who could use them. Giving them to a church is a good idea.

On the front page, write: "I wholeheartedly recommend reading this book as thoroughly as possible. Doing that made me who I am. Signed, Yoer Friend."
Then, circle 2 Kings 2:23-24 and write on the margin: "This is what I was talking about in the front page. Crap like this made me an atheist. Google "bible atrocities" for more. Signed, Your Friend."

11. What a weak atrocity! |

Judges 19 is far more repulsive.

16. I agree. My gran, who belonged to the 'Unity' church |
|
(nothing to do with Unitarians - and gran believed in ET's/reincarnation/and the Greek pantheon along with her Christianity. Covering her bases, that one . . .)
After her death, I was packing up her things and came across her bible. It was so full of marginalia that it was hard to see the text. Most of her comments were refutations, criticisms, and complaints - or just rewriting sections to suit her preferences. There were many "HS!" comments, which I eventually figured out meant 'hogswallop' - her version of bull-sh*t.
Cracked me up.

12. Oh, I throw books away. Why not? |
|
My father-in-law gave me one of Bill O's books for Xmas once. I tossed it in the trash before the rest of the presents were unwrapped.
And, I tossed a ton of religious books I owned in the trash. Why not? They were trash. Why feel that one must never destroy a book? Is there something holy about a book just because it's a book? Why give them to a church? If you believe the books are full of stupidities and lies -and even dangerous in the positions they stake out - how is it good to keep them in circulation, especially giving them to people seeking not to find out whether the Bible is true, but how it is true?

At the very least, use it as birdcage liner or in the fireplace.

14. Actually, I put them in the recycle bin. |
|
And I imagine some people at the recycling plant yank a few books out of the mess and keep them.

You know, a totally godless, hard headed atheist who meditates.
I'm a pretty bad one when it comes to tolerating religious wingnuttery, but leaving the stuff for the people who will appreciate it seems like the best way to go.

Flip it one way and it's Richard Dawkins dancing.
Flip it the other and it's bloated, fetid Chris Hitchens drawing flies.
It'll be an underground hit. One day you'll read on a weblog, "Someone gave me the most damned peculiar thing for my birthday yesterday..."
