| Weren't those Easter threads FUN? |
|
I won't post any links, to avoid accusations of "calling out" etc. But I saw some of the Usual Suspects from this group...erm, participating.
So let's see. I come into a board of very diverse people, post a specifically Xian-centric message, and then get surprised when posters start pointing out the obvious--not all of us believe in your god.
I particularly appreciated some of the love shown by our good DU Xians. In fact, as I posted: I'm trying to come up with a better insult than "assmunch," but unfortunately I don't have a time machine so I can go back to Third Grade and do the proper research.

even one of those threads. 'Assmunch'? Good grief.
On a similar, but different note - I was listening to NPR today and they had a piece on the various 'names' people have been calling Bernie Madoff. Essentially, the speaker was discussing how much language has changed since the 19th century. He commented that Elie Wiesel was asked if Madoff was a psychopath, and Wiesel responded that he was not - nor was he a sociopath - because those terms suggested a mental frailty or disability that he (Wiesel) was unwilling to ascribe to Madoff. No, he said, Madoff is nothing more than a scoundrel.
I love that word. I like using scoundrel and wastrel and wretch and cad. They cover so much territory with so little effort - they are excellent words. I was sorry to hear that they have been replaced by psychopath and sociopath - agreeing with Elie that those provide an 'out' for many people who don't deserve it.
'Assmunch'? That's a term that's not even worth considering.

Mainly because I was busy, but I'm glad to have avoided the inevitable creepy "He is risen!" posts and equally inevitable fallout. As for "assmunch", I believe that's a theologian's term of art, first used by Origen.

that nobody took the bait when I used the term to refer to Christians in that thread. I enjoyed the time machine comment.
