| 1. It depends I guess on when and who he's talking about-- |
|
There are modern "satanists" who follow Anton LaVey who are basically atheist logical positivists--but that's a pretty recent development and I don't think it pertains to what most people think of when they think "satanist" (which in my mind is usually "mixed-up supernaturalists with an affinity for bad heavy metal and occasionally, an animus against livestock".)
I think the modern atheist-type satanists use the term "satanist" just to be shocking. But I'd say the other sort are definitely the "Un-Atheists", because they would have to believe in not only God, but in Satan, the whole "war of Good vs. Evil, the idea of having a soul to sell--it's a pretty detailed supernaturalism. In the context of Armageddon, I think he has his satanists mixed up.

but I called that spiritual satanism.
"bad heavy metal"! I am a devout Metal Head...
Yes, you can just believe in satan and not also accept god. Like, you can not have Freya without a Thor type thing.

IF Atheists = evil AND Satanists = evil THEN Atheists = Satanists END IF
Nevermind the fact that his original assumptions are pulled directly out of his ass. What a douchenozzle.

| 3. When you buy into Satan you buy into God at the same time. |
|
If you believe in either one, then you're still religious and don't qualify as an atheist.

| 7. Today: History Channel +1, NatGeo -1 |
|
Today HC is showing "9/11 Conspiracy - Fact or Fiction." Very well-done, I'm surprised to say. They take every 9/11 kook claim, then show a response from real experts.
And over on NatGeo, yet another 2012 "documentary." Argh!

Wow! I don't think I have EVER heard this on any TV channel.
During a commercial for one of its WWII documentaries, a veteran is talking about seeing the bodies of dead GI's.
He said he couldn't stand to look at them because their eyes were open and they seemed to be looking at him.
Then he says something like: "After seeing that, religion had nothing for me. In that instant, I became a non-believer."
I still can't get over how rare it is to hear something like that. Especially in a WWII documentary where we're more likely to hear some tired variant of "no atheists in foxholes."
Long as I'm here, and I've mentioned this before - but Stephen Ambrose managed to find an actual WWII atheist for his book Citizen Soldiers.
During the battle of the Bulge, IIRC, this soldier had been stuck in a foxhole all night with a devout Catholic who kept saying Hail Marys.
The atheist said by dawn, he "had just about enough of that." So he climbed out of the foxhole to check on the rest of the squad.
When he was just a few feet away, a mortar shell fell right into the foxhole and horribly wounded his Catholic comrade.

I love it when kids ask me if I believe in the devil because I don't believe in god. The concept is apparently beyond the grasp of even some adults.
