| A secretary put a DVD from her church on my desk this morning. |
|
It was here before I got in. There is a post it bidding me to watch the last 20 minutes. I really don't want to get the boss involved since I have to work with her on a daily basis. Does this mean I can put a copy of The God Who Wasn't There on her desk.

| 1. i would put a copy of Religulous on her desk. |
|
actually, i would go to HR. what if a muslin was handing out DVDs about Allah?
that person would be snatched and renditioned faster than the pink slip could be printed.
thaT SHIT has no business in the workplace. none of the religious bullshit does.

There's the elected D.A. and that's it. I think I'm just going to tell her I'm not interested and that a government office is not an appropriate place for proselytizing.

| 2. You have three options |
|
First, return it and tell this person you're simply not interested.
Second, shitcan it and lie about having seen it.
Third, hand it over to HR with a complaint that religious proselytizing doesn't belong in the workplace.
I tend to favor the first and last options. The middle one is the coward's way out.

The elected D.A. probably agrees with the secretary on religious matters, but is very careful not to impose his feelings on others. I'm sure it is something he would rather not have to get involved in.

| 8. I wrote her a nice note and left it on her desk while she is at lunch. |
|
I said I knew she was acting out of genuine concern and that I appreciated it. I also said I was completely uninterested. I also noted that she would not appreciate receiving a DVD about atheism from me and that this sort of thing is not appropriate for the office. I concluded by thanking her for her concerning and telling her to rest assured knowing she did her Christian duty.
I made xerox copies of everything.

|
I have to think that might have pissed her off a little. That is supposed to be a Christian virtue. The thing is, she really was acting with the best of intentions. If one accepts the premise that a non-Christian (which to her means a non-Fundy) is necessarily going to hell, then it is a moral imperative to win over as many souls for JC as possible. What are societal norms or even ones job next to eternal damnation?
Also, I wrote that I was a Christian once but decided that "path" was not for me. So I'm someone who is completely aware of what she wanted to tell me, but rejected it anyway.

go bozo when it comes to religion. One of my long-time friends who is not a Christian but describes herself as 'very spiritual' started crying last week because I don't have a "belief system".... Glad you thought to CYA and hope the situation dies a quiet death there at the office.

After all, if you're even trying to brush her off you're still engaging in conversation about it.
I'd have just informed HR politely and let them handle it.

| 21. Again, there is no HR here. |
|
And I feel it was necessary to push back respectfully but firmly. Otherwise, she'd be asking me what I thought of it and giving me mass (or whatever it is) schedules for her church. The only conversation was to tell her how uninterested I was. Besides, I see her every day and she really is a nice person. I felt that a respectful refusal was more effective than getting the boss involved.

I will walk right up to them and hand them their shit back with a "What the fuck are you doing?" question.
And yes, if you watch that, then you have ever right to leave a reply for them to watch.
