| Where are all the anti-bigotry people? |
|
They get so upset anytime an atheist challenges anything religious yet when an atheist is fired for not believing in the volcano, they're (again) nowhere to be found.

Catholic school teacher privately doesn't believe in the Abrahamic god, takes steps to keep it secret from her students. Administrators find out, fire her, take steps to deny her unemployment benefits.

THERE'S A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN "CAN" AND "SHOULD!!!!"
I honestly wonder if some of these people ever stop and think whether they should do something just because they can.

| 8. Ha! That goes along with these incredible claims... |
|
I've seen these two posted all over the Interwebz. They can easily be knocked down in about 2 nanoseconds of Googling, once you know the sources:
1. "The Inquisition operated for several centuries. But it wasn't so bad - the historical records show that only about 1,200 people were sentenced to death under the Inquisition!"
SOURCE: the records of the Catholic Church itself! And why wouldn't we believe them? Probably because this figure was calculated by a Catholic apologist/historian. No mention of all those jailed, tortured or forced to give up their property to Inquisition courts. (Which was often the whole point of arresting a heretic or infidel.)
It's also helpful to remember that in many places (including the Americas), Inquisition courts stayed in business until well into the 19th century.
2. "During WWII, Pope Pius XII personally saved thousands of Jews from the Holocaust. And that has been proven by a Jewish researcher!"
SOURCE: make that a Jewish historian who converted to Catholicism. (The claimants usually omit that little fact.)
The most interesting thing about this claim is its Creationist Math. The "researcher" figured out roughly how many Jews survived the Holocaust in Europe, and gave the Pope credit for saving all of them.
Talk about chutzpah...
