the NTS fallacy, but can I ask: How does anyone know he was an atheist?

As far as I know the man posted a screed in which he railed against US currency in general. He wanted to go back to a gold or silver standard, like so many right-wing idiots, and in the process of explaining this he said "No, I won't trust God!" Seems appropriate in context when you think about it. Why trust God when you can trust Gold?

I haven't seen anything else so far that would tell us anything about his faith.

(I say all of this because I'm thinking that painting him as an atheist may just be another show of hate by the super-majority.)

That was the quote our goatherder tossed into GD. It's the same one used elsewhere. I saw it in USAToday's "Faith and Reason" column yesterday.

Just pretend you've never seen a greenback and you'll get to climb on your desk and thunder righteously. Who can resist that?

Oddly, there's a better quote most of them missed. He declares he's a nihilist and reiterates he won't trust God. I saw that one give a Freepwit an A-HA boner: Nihilists begat the Socialists, who begat the Communists. Loughner was a Communist!
