Several waitpersons have given me an earful about having that done to them.

I did the opposite once. A few years ago, I was in a cafe reading God Is Not Good while I burgered. I noticed the waitress leaning down to read the title, and was bracing myself for a sermon.

Turns out she was just curious, and asked what it was about etc. We had a nice conversation about being an atheist, or as much of a convo as you can have with a hard-working waitperson.

Next time I went into that place, I had finished the book. At the time I was headed back to Egypt and getting rid of stuff. I usually donate finished books to charity anyhow. So I left the book for her. And a real $$$ tip, of course.
