With all the reading/watching I've done about WWII, I never heard this one until tonight.
In a rare break from Pawn Shop Trucker Space-Alien Ghosts, tonight History Channel ran the "Hidden Evidence" series. This show takes a WWII battle and uses original aerial recon photos, overlaid with modern CGI to make sense of what happened. Seeing the old photos turn into 3D terrain images is pretty neat.
In the episode about the 1943 invasion of Sicily, they interviewed a white-haired, bespectacled, frail-looking and soft-spoken British veteran of the 1st Airborne Division. Who went thru some seriously dangerous events in Sicily.
He said that when things were at their worst, he prayed "the prayer of the unknown soldier:"
Oh God...if there be a god...save my soul...if I have a soul.
Those damn Gnu Atheists again...
