Getting together slightly offensive cold weather holiday music - any suggestions? |
|
First, sorry if this is the wrong place but I thought this might not go over super well in the Lounge, even though the tracks I have so far aren't terribly offensive. Okay, a couple might be to the very devout. Anyway, I'm looking for tracks that either have Jesus or god in the title and/or lyrics and make non-traditional references. The first example listed, despite the title, is the least offensive; it can be taken at face value though that's not it's intention. And I'm looking for more! Hard on For Jesus http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q-C2sfSF6kcNietzsche http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=che852Y8Xf8 - really more an Easter song I guess Love Spreads http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mBqvP9lAWjwMy Dick http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GTAfYEWHmncJust Like Kicking Jesus http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9j4syPZ3pS8

2. Oh dear. I have some smelling salts and Hitchens handy... |

:-)
Actually, since my OP is sort of Loungey, I wasn't sure if it was appropriate here.

3. I like vodka and Carl Sagan, but Hitch'll do in a pinch. |
|
You'll have to try a lot harder than that to offend atheists, especially those on DU.
No sacred cows here.

I could hear the weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth as I contemplatied posting in the Lounge, though. But I think I have the beginnings of the most awesome Cold Weather Holiday Album EVER.
on edit: Hitchens is sort of a weenie, but he fit with my alliteration.

20. I only have dial up, dammit, but I can listen to these at bf's mother's house during the holidays. |
|
Maybe I could play them for everybody when we're opening gifts!
I put vodka in a perfume bottle in my purse last year but it was woefully inadequate.
I'm seriously considering leaving the gate open the night before so that I'll have to stay home to catch the horses.

But that does look simply awful, thanks!

22. A personal favourite is "God Rest Ye, Unitarians" |
|
God rest ye, Unitarians, let nothing you dismay; Remember there's no evidence there was a Christmas Day; When Christ was born is just not known, no matter what they say, O, Tidings of reason and fact, reason and fact, Glad tidings of reason and fact.
There was no star of Bethlehem, there was no angels' song; There could have been no wise men for the trip would take too long. The stories in the Bible are historically wrong, O, Tidings of reason and fact, reason and fact, Glad tidings of reason and fact!
Our current Christmas customs come from Persia and from Greece, From solstice celebrations of the ancient Middle East. We know our so-called holiday is just a pagan feast, O, Tidings of reason and fact, reason and fact, Glad tidings of reason and fact.
