BSG Fleet Election

Perhaps this is a little early but there will be an election for President on the show so I thought this would be a fun way to link our SciFi interest with the political bent of DU in general. :)

If no one gets 60% of the vote the top two vote getters will have a run off.

1. Zareck For President

Blech. Not much in the way of choices.

I would vote to elect Roslin, but with her illness...I think the fleet couldn't handle the turmoil of her dying. Unless there was a strong vice president.

I wouldn't vote for Adama either. The President has other duties, civilian duties. Adama needs to be free to command the fleet. If he were elected president he couldn't serve as the commander of the galactica, which would be a problem. Not that I don't think Tigh, without his wife would be a solid leader, but with his wife around, and him drinking...plus he doesn't have total respect.

Baltar is a total nutbag and a cylon sympathiser.

Zareck was a terrorist, but apparently there is more than one side. I dont' know enough about him, so I keep the right to switch my vote but based on what we've seen so far I'd probably go with Zareck.

2. special knowledge

perhaps we should be voting as a Fleet citizen would vote without the "special knowledge" we have.

Would a Fleet citizen know about Roslin's illness? Perhaps they will learn of it but they don't right now.

And of course if they happen to know Baltar they probably know him as a celeberty and certinaly don't know he's a cylon sympathizer.

I was particularly curious to see if people would vote for Roslin though since it sounds like she was part of a somewhat Bushlike administration.

3. ok without special knowledge...Roslin

if our choices are Roslin, Zareck, Baltar, and Adama and i'm someone sitting in the Rising Star...

I'll vote for Roslin.

Zareck is a criminal. I don't know whether or not I'd think he's a terrorist or a freedom fighter, but either way he blew up a building and killed people. Whether or not I agree with what his beliefs were about, no way in hell I'd vote for him.

Baltar is a scientist. He's got no specific prior experience as a leader from what I've heard. Sure he's a great scientist, but that doesn't mean he should be the president. We need him thinking and doing science stuff, not being President.

Adama is tempting. He's keeping us alive. Thing is that if he were President he couldn't still command the Galactica. We need him where he is.

Roslin is the only choice. Sure she's sick, but hopefully she'll get better. I just don't see an alternative among the four listed.

4. Roslin Should Be Pres

Even W/ her ailment. I mean hell, they could ALL die in a heartbeat anyway if the Cylon's ever get a good bead on them. No one knows about here illness anyway.
